Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team used two second half goals to pick up their first Liberty League win of the season Saturday, defeating Clarkson University 2-0 at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference while the Golden Knights fall to 5-4-1 and 0-2 in league play.
Junior
Greg Lloyd (Allendale, N.J.) put Skidmore on the board when he beat Clarkson keeper Scott Stuart with a header off of
Taylor Alderson's (Berkeley, Calif.) blocked shot at the 52:42 mark.
Doug Yeates (Richmond, Vt.) put the Thoroughbreds up 2-0 when he beat the goalie on a free kick at the 59:57 mark. Yeates has now scored a goal in five consecutive games.
Skidmore controlled the ball throughout the contest and outshot Clarkson 13-9. Skidmore goalie
Nick Peterson (West Hartford, Conn.) made three saves for his third shutout of the season and Scott Stuart made two saves for the Golden Knights.
It was a very physical game which saw 35 fouls and three yellow cards.
The Thoroughbreds return to action October 5 at 7 p.m., when they host St. Joseph's.
