Field hockey completes weekend sweep with 1-0 win over Williams

Williamstown, Mass.Christine Kemp's second-half goal was all the Skidmore College field hockey team needed for a 1-0 win at Williams College on Sunday.

The win moves the Thoroughbreds to 3-1, while the Ephs fall to 1-1.

Skidmore dominated the game offensively with a 22-6 shot advantage.  Thoroughbred goalie Liz Catinella had four saves for the shutout.

The game was intense and well played on both sides, particularly defensively,” said Skidmore coach Beth Hallenbeck.   “Although we generated more scoring chances, the Williams defense was stingy.  The majority of play was in the midfield where Carolyne McManama, Lauren McCarthy and Katie Potter worked tirelessly to transition the ball and win it back when we lost possession.

Julia Sarni was tenacious and aggressive coming up with the ball time and again and giving Skidmore another chance on offense.  The win came as a result of a true team effort with hard work from beginning to end.”

Skidmore is at Union Sept. 19.
