Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's soccer team used two second half goals to come from behind and defeat Vassar 2-1 in Friday's Liberty League action at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 9-2-1 and 3-0 in the league, while the Brewers fall to 5-6 and 1-3 in league play.
Vassar was able to get out to an early 1-0 lead when Jordan Crook collected the rebound off Anna Robinson's shot and beat Skidmore keeper
Meghan Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) at the 14:41 mark.
The Thoroughbreds fought back and tied it up at the 51:35 mark, when
Abby Benton (Vergennes, Vt.) collected the cross from
Jenni Hibbard (Dedham, Mass.), spun off the defender and beat Brewer goalie Lexi Hutton for her third goal of the season.
Skidmore kept the ball in their offensive zone for most of the second half and was able to take the lead when sophomore
Elena Stansky (Worcester, Mass.) received the pass from
Catherine Kapustynski (Darien, Conn.) catching Hutton out of position and easily putting it into the empty net with just under eight minutes left for the eventual game-winner.
The Thoroughbreds outshot Vassar 14-5;
Meghan Sleezer made three saves in net for the Skidmore. Ali Higgins made three saves in the first half and Lexi Hutton made two in the second half for the Brewers.
The Thoroughbreds host RPI in Liberty League action tomorrow at 2 p.m.
