Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Sophomore Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) scored two goals as the Skidmore College field hockey team posted a 4-1 non-conference win over 19th ranked Williams College on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Thoroughbred Field.
 
The 15th ranked Thoroughbreds (1-1) scored first at 18:05 into the first half when freshman Annie Rosencrans (Riverside, Conn.) tallied her first collegiate goal on a deflection from Carolyne McManama(Medfield, Mass.) off of a corner from the top of the circle.
 
McManama picked up another assist on a touch from a corner to junior Elise Britt (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) who made an aggressive move towards the middle of the circle and put it past Ephs keeper Katrina Tulla (New Canaan, Conn..) to gain a 2-0 cushion at 33:46.
 
Kemp made it 3-0 in the second half when she drove uncontested up the left side baseline and scored for her first goal of the season at 42:05..
 
The Ephs fought back in the latter half, gaining a 6-4 advantage on corners.  Senior Jess Overlander (New Canaan, Ct.) put in the lone Williams goal off a pass from Meghan McGowan (Greenwich, Conn.) that cut the lead to two, 3-1 at 68:00.
 
Kemp sealed the win for the Thoroughbreds with an insurance goal with 16 seconds to play..  After a breakaway down the sideline, an Ephs foul left her with a penalty stroke that she drove into the bottom left corner of the next to put the final at 4-1.
 
Tulla and Skidmore net minderLiz Catinella (Sudbury, Mass.) both finished with six saves.  The Thoroughbreds out shot the Ephs 12-9 and both squads were even on corners with six each.
 
Skidmore will be in action next at home on  Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. against sixth ranked Middlebury College.
