Skidmore men grab 1-0 win at RIT

ROCHESTER, NY Matt Kelsey¹s goal with 16:34 left in regulation broke a
scoreless tie and lifted Skidmore (4-2-2) to a 1-0 victory over the RIT
men¹s soccer team (1-5-0) on a picturesque, sunny, Saturday afternoon at RIT
Field.

Kelsey took a long feed from Ethan LaTour down the right side and sped in
alone on a breakaway. RIT goalkeeper Alan Smith (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor)
came out to cut down the angle, but Kelsey put a nifty shot between Smith¹s
legs for the goal.

RIT nearly scored the tying goal with six minutes left, but Bobby Bullard¹s
(Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) header from inside the box slammed off the
crossbar and out.

Skidmore out-shot RIT 13-7. Smith was excellent in defeat, stopping nine
shots. Nick Peterson made one save for the Throughbreds.

Both teams had excellent scoring chances in the first half, despite the
scoreless tie.

Skidmore¹s Diego Reinero ripped a shot from just outside the box that Smith
leaped to knock away. Smith made a handful of other key saves in the opening
half to keep the game scoreless. He stopped seven first half shots.

Dan Holowaty (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) had RIT¹s best chance of the
first half. Mark Lohkamp (Billerica, MA/Billerica) volleyed a ball towards
the goal that was knocked down in the box and bounced to Holowaty.
Holowaty¹s shot from 16-yards out was headed towards the goal, but was saved
off the line by Skidmore defender Kevin Regan.

It was RIT¹s fifth straight contest against a team from the Liberty League.
Skidmore is now riding a four-game unbeaten streak.
