Skidmore comes back to beat Oneonta 2-1

Oneonta, N.Y.--The Skidmore Thoroughbreds visited Oneonta State on Friday evening and used two late goals to hand the Oneonta State field hockey their first loss of the season, 2-1. With the victory Skidmore moves to 2-2 on the season while Oneonta State is now 3-1.

It took nearly 58 minutes to score the first goal of the game on Friday evening at All College Field on the campus of SUNY-Oneonta but with the rain coming down the flood gates seemed to open.

Oneonta sophomore Ainsley Stoll (Williamsville/Williamsville The Skidmore Thoroughbreds visited Oneonta State on Friday evening and used two late goals to hand the Oneonta State field hockey their first loss of the season, 2-1North) scored the first goal of the game at 57:45 on a straight shot from the top of the circle to put the Red Dragons on the board.

Skidmore wasted no time answering as junior Elise Britt (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) scored the Thoroughbreds first goal of the game three minutes later (60:36) to tie the game at 1-1. Britt's goal came off the stick of sophomore Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) amid congestion in front of the goal.
"I was a little disappointed in the intensity level in the first half, but once they (Oneonta) scored, there was a shift in momentum and the urgency was palpable," said head coach Beth Hallenbeck.

With the scored tied and the rain coming down the Thoroughbreds seemed to turn the momentum on their side as freshman Annie Rosencrans (Riverside, CT/Greenwich) collected a pass from Kemp that rebounded off of the Oneonta goalie and found her stick as she put it over the line to give Skidmore a 2-1 lead that they would hold for the remainder of the game.
"It is so important for a young team to have that kind of drive and determination and know they can succeed under pressure," said Hallenbeck.

Sophomore Liz Catinella (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln Sudbury) picked up the win in goal for the Thoroughbreds making three saves in 70-minutes of play. Junior Erika Dombkowski (Carmel/Carmel) took her first loss of the season in goal for the Red Dragons making 11 saves in a complete game in goal.
