Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The sixth ranked Middlebury College field hockey team scored two goals in the first 12:24 of the game on its way to a 2-0 win over 15th ranked Skidmore College in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Thoroughbred Field.
The Panthers, coming off a 6-2 win over St. Lawrence, improve to 2-0 on the season. The Thoroughbreds fall to 1-2.
Middlebury came out quickly 3:01 into the contest when Lindsay McBride (Old Greenwich, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season off of a converted corner by Mullery Doar that put the visitors up 1-0.
Sophomore Chase Delano (Greenwich, Conn.) took a pass from senior Taryn Petrelli (Harrison, N.Y.) and shot a rocket into the left side of the goal for her fourth goal of the season, giving the Panthers a 2-0 edge at 12:24.
Skidmore had key chances throughout the contest, including a lift by senior
Chelsea Carroll (Pittstown, N.J.) near the end of the first half that just missed the goal and hit the crossbar, and a break away attempt by
Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) that was denied by Middlebury senior net minder Caitlin Pentifallo (River Edge, N.J.).
Pentifallo finished with 10 saves in the shutout, seven of them coming in the second half. Sophomore goalie
Liz Catinella (Sudbury, Mass.) recorded a season-high 11 saves for the Thoroughbreds.
Skidmore travels to Oneonta State on Sept. 12, and will play at home on Sept. 13 against Ithaca College at 3 p.m.
