Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Freshman Lauren Madden scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Skidmore College women's soccer team to a 4-1 win over SUNY Cortland Saturday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.

The 2-0 Thoroughbreds dominated the game, holding a 17-8 shot advantage over the Red Dragons, who fell to 0-1-1 on the season.

Junior Emily Quirk ignited the scoring in the first half when she received a Rachael Sushner (Potomac, Md.) entry at the top of the goalie box and drove it into the net to give Skidmore a 1-0 lead at 25:06. 

Rookie Elena Stansky increased the lead to two at 30:46 when she scored off of a perfect cross from senior Sarah Whateley(Williamstown, Mass.).

Cortland's lone goal came at 56:39 in the second half when sophomore Kelsey Allen's (Clifton Park, N.Y.) shot from a Kayla Sweet (Fonda, N.Y.) pass went in to cut the lead to one, 2-1.

Madden tallied an unassisted goal three minutes, making a great move to get by Cortland keeper Pam Monnier to end the Red Dragon momentum and increase the lead back to two, 3-1.

Katie Dalton (Pepperell, Mass.) added an insurance goal off a Madden assist with 3:51 left in the game to put the final score at 4-1.

Thoroughbred keeper Meghan Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) finished with three saves while Cortland's Monnier ended with eight. 

Skidmore will now face a nine-game away stretch that begins Sept. 6 at Hartwick in the Mayor's Cup Tournament.
