The Skidmore College field hockey team lost its season opener, 3-1 at Babson. Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) scored two goals for the Beavers.
Fredlund's first goal of the game was scored fifteen minutes into the first half off a free hit into the circle from first year midfielder Anneliese Brosch (Essex, Mass.). Though being outshot in the first half, 8-3, the Beavers entered halftime with the 1-0 lead.
Babson's second goal came five minutes into the second half, when senior co-captain Nicole Cemelli (Towaco, N.J.) deflected a free hit from sophomore Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.) into the cage for a 2-0 advantage. Skidmore junior forward
Elise Britt (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) answered seven minutes later with the Thoroughbreds' first and only goal of the game, but Fredlund sealed the win for the Beavers with her second goal of the game in the 54th minute.
Skidmore ended the game with 11 penalty corners compared to Babson's one.
