Elise Britt (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) recorded her first hat trick of the season as the Skidmore College field hockey team blew past New Paltz State, 5-0, in non-conference action Friday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds, who scored four of the five goals in the first 24:21 of the contest, improve to 6-3. The Hawks fall to 1-7.
Sophomore
Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich, Mass.) got the scoring started early when she found a loose ball in front of the goal and converted at 7:27 for the first Skidmore goal of the day. Britt scored goal number one at 12:15 off of a pass from
Carolyne McManama (Medfield, Mass.) that put the Thoroughbreds up 2-0.
Freshman
Molly Spara (Fairport, N.Y.) took a ball from sophomore
Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and scored her first collegiate goal from five yards out at 16:05.
Britt and junior
Sheray Michel (Schuylerville, N.Y.) combined for the next two Skidmore goals. In the first half, Michel found Britt off of a corner pass at 24:21 that gave the home team a 4-0 cushion.
Britt put in her final goal of the day when she dove from the right side for a pass from Michel and tipped it in just past New Paltz goalie Elizabeth Dini (Sayville, N.Y.) for the 5-0 final.
The Thoroughbreds held a 16-1 shot advantage and a 10-3 advantage on penalty corners.
Hawks starting goalie Grace Watson (Bayville, N.Y.) finished with seven saves in 16:05 played. Dini finished with three saves in 53:55.
Skidmore will host Rochester and William Smith in a Liberty League home weekend on Oct. 10-11.
