Skidmore field hockey downs Hartwick on Senior Day, 3-0

Box Score

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College field hockey team posted a 3-0 non-conference win over Hartwick College Wednesday afternoon in its final home game as the Thoroughbreds honored seniors Chelsea Carroll (Pittstown, N.J.) and Anne Murphy (San Francisco, Calif.) for their four years of play for Skidmore.

The win puts the Thoroughbreds at 12-3 this season heading into their final regular season contest at Utica on Nov. 1. The Hawks fall to 6-10.

Junior Elise Britt (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) put Skidmore on the board 4:22 into the game when she tipped in a ball from sophomore Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), who crossed the ball and found Britt wide open in front of the goal for the 1-0 advantage.

Kemp then scored a goal of her own in the second half when she battled for a pass from freshman Annie Rosencrans (Riverside, Conn.) and pushed it past a defender and Hawk goalie Mackenzie Chapman (Niskayuna, N.Y.) for a 2-0 lead at 50:59.

The Thoroughbred's third goal came off of a penalty stroke by junior defender Casey Tang (Columbia, Md.) with 2:38 left to play. A Hartwick foul left Tang in the circle for the stroke, where she beat Chapman with a hard drive to the left corner of the goal to make it 3-0.

Skidmore dominated possession for most of the contest, holding a 17-3 shot advantage and collecting 10 penalty corners to six for the Hawks.

Chapman put up a solid performance in goal for the visitors, finishing with 12 saves on the day. Thoroughbred net minder Liz Catinella (Sudbury, Mass.) picked up two saves in her fifth shutout of the season.

The Thoroughbreds trip to Utica is their last contest before Liberty League playoffs, which will be held at St. Lawrence University on Nov. 7-8.
