Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's soccer team clinched a spot in the Liberty League playoffs with a 2-0 conference win over St. Lawrence University Sunday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds (12-4-2, 4-2-1 Liberty League) clinch the third seed in the playoffs with the win. St. Lawrence (10-3-3, 3-3-1) is the fourth seed in the tournament. William Smith is the first seed and will host the event scheduled for Nov. 7-8. Skidmore will play third seed Union College in the first round.
Skidmore started the scoring early at 13:39 on a goal by junior
Emily Quirk (Maplewood, N.J.). A corner by sophomore
Lindsay Schmitt (Mendon, Mass.) was headed out of the box by a Saint defender and found Quirk, who trapped the ball and shot from 25 yards out. The shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and ricocheted in for a 1-0 Skidmore lead.
Play was even in the second half until a shot by junior
Abbey Sumas (Basking Ridge, N.J.) got away from St. Lawrence keeper Abby van Geldern (Rowayton, Conn.) and was picked up by freshman
Lauren Madden (Huntington, N.Y.) who had an open net for the score with 3:38 left in regulation.

Meghan Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) recorded her seventh shutout of the season and collected two saves in the win. Van Geldern kept the Saints alive during the contest, recording nine saves.
Skidmore will host SUNY Plattsburgh on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. before Liberty League playoffs, which will be held at William Smith on Nov. 7-8.
