Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's soccer team held seventh-ranked William Smith College to a 0-0 double-overtime tie Saturday afternoon in Liberty League action at Wachenheim Field.
With the tie, The Herons still stand atop the Liberty League with a 9-1-2 overall record and a 4-0-1 mark in conference play. The Thoroughbreds are 2-1-1 in the Liberty League and 9-3-2 overall.
After a quiet first half, William Smith found a good scoring opportunity when a shot from freshman Alyse DiCenzo (Pittsford, N.Y.) just missed and hit the cross bar at 60:10.
Skidmore senior
Rachael Sushner (Potomac, Md.) received similar results when she fired a bullet that hit the crossbar and nearly bounced in the goal before the ball was picked up by Heron keeper Amanda Davis (Succasunna, N.J.).
In the first overtime period, William Smith's Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer, N.Y.) took a direct kick off of a Skidmore foul and aimed for the top shelf, but the shot was denied by Skidmore keeper
Meghan Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) to keep the game tied.
The Thoroughbreds held a 12-8 shot advantage in the game, with eight shots coming in the second half.
Sleezer had another solid day in goal for the Thoroughbreds, picking up her fifth shutout of the season with four saves. Davis finished with six saves for William Smith.
Skidmore will host Utica College next on Wednesday, Oct. 15 in a non-conference match-up.
