Skidmore men crush Southern Vermont, 6-0

Box Score

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.--  The Skidmore College men's soccer team took a break from its Liberty League schedule to post a 6-0 win over Southern Vermont College, Wednesday night at Wachenheim Field.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 6-3-2, while the Mountaineers fall to 2-8-1.

Six different players scored in the balanced attack. Three of Skidmore's four second-half goals came from non-starters.

Matt Kelsey (Cambridge, Mass.) got things started with his team-high fourth goal of the season when a Southern Vermont defender mishandled his shot at 8:11.  Kevin Regan (Chevy Chase, Md.) made it 2-0 at 21:52 when he fired a shot past the SVC keeper from 25-yards out.  Diego Reinero (Princeton, N.J.) assisted.

In the second half, Reinero started a run of four Skidmore goals in the game's final 19 minutes when he converted a well-place pass from Mark Roseboom to make it 3-0 at 71:38.  Pat Wildes (Hamden, Conn.) scored from Taylor Alderson (Berkeley, Calif.) three minutes later at 74:41 for a 4-0 lead.

Mark Jensen (Cambridge, Mass.) made it 5-0 at 85:22 and Ernie Economides (Bournedale, Mass.) converted a penalty kick for the sixth goal at 88:04.

Nick Peterson (West Hartford, Conn.) and Lucas Millington (Chatham Center, N.Y.) combined for the shutout.  Peterson had two saves both in the first half.  Skidmore out shot the Mountaineers 33-2 overall and 18-0 in the second half.

The Thoroughbreds are at Castleton State on Oct. 4.
