Geneva, N.Y.- The Skidmore College women's doubles team of
Nataly Mendoza and
Lee Ford won the 2011 USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Doubles Championship, Monday afternoon at the HWS Tennis Center.
With the win, the pair earns All-American honors and a spot in the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships. They became the fifth Skidmore doubles team to earn All-American and first since Amy Wachenheim and Lisa Powers in 2000.
In the championship, Mendoza and Ford defeated the top-seeded pair of Karisse Bendisjo and Allison Tierney of The College of New Jersey, 6-4, 6-4.
"It was a really good weekend for the entire team" said head coach
Curt Speerschneider. "Everyone played extremely well match after match. What a way to top it off with a doubles championship and two new All Americans. Nataly and Lee played with complete confidence and composure and got stronger each match. They deserve to join that elite group of Skidmore Tennis All Americans."
The pair will now compete in the USTA/ITA Small College Championships Oct. 13-16 at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.
