Kowalski named NEHC Goaltender of the Week

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Freshman goaltender Brian Kowalski of the Skidmore College hockey team was named as the NEHC Goaltender of the Week for an impressive impromptu performance last weekend, the league announced on Monday.

It's the first career award for Kowalski.

Pressed into a starting role after warmups, Kowalski – making his third start of his collegiate career – was stellar, leading Skidmore to an impressive 3-2 overtime victory against nationally ranked UMass Boston. The rookie tallied a season-best 41 saves, including 19 in the second period to keep the Beacons at bay.

In five appearances this season, Kowalski has a 3.03 goals against average and a .917 save percentage for a 1-1-1 record.

The Thoroughbreds (5-17-1, 3-12-1 NEHC) played a pair of overtime games last weekend, defeating UMass Boston 3-2 on Friday and falling to Babson by a 3-2 score. Skidmore, winners in three of the last four contests, will wrap up the regular season on the road, heading to Castleton on Friday at 7 p.m. and Norwich on Saturday at 4 p.m.
