Skidmore sweeps Clarkson to earn Liberty League berth

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College softball team swept Clarkson University 4-1 and 5-4 to secure its second Liberty League playoff berth.
 
The Thoroughbreds  (12-14, 6-4 Liberty) have a pair of league games on Sunday at Union before next weekends league tournament. Skidmore's last tournament appearance was in 2010.  Clarkson (6-24, 2-8) will close out its league schedule on Sunday at RPI.
 
Skidmore scored a run in the first and three in the third in the first game.  Abby Shea drove in Lauren Fortunato with an RBI single in the first. Shea had an RBI double in the third, followed by a two-run single by Cassie Fishkin.
 
Fortunato was 2-3 with two runs and earned the win on the mound, allowing one run on seven hits over five innings. Fishkin  picked-up the save.  Shea was 2-3 with two RBI.
 
In the second game, Mackenzie Whiting drilled a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie and secure the sweep. Fishkin had another solid outing, going 2-3 with two RBI at the plate and earning the complete game win, allowing four runs (one earned).
 
The four-team Liberty League tournament begins Thursday at the highest seed.  Final standings will be decided after Sunday's games.
