Tyler Phillips scored four goals for the second straight game

Women's lacrosse tops Clarkson, 10-9

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Skidmore College women's lacrosse freshman midfielder Tyler Phillips tallied four goals for the second straight game and netted the game-winner to lead the Thoroughbreds past Clarkson University, 10-9, Friday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
 
With the score tied 9-9, Phillips made the most of a Golden Knights (5-11, 2-6 Liberty League) turnover, breaking in alone on goal and beating Clarkson goalie Kara DiNatale with a high shot. Anna Gubbins helped seal the win for the Thoroughbreds (5-10, 4-4 Liberty League) causing a turnover and collecting the ensuing ground ball on the Golden Knights final possession of the game.
 
Phillips added a game-high five ground balls and four caused turnovers for Skidmore. Emma Harris netted a pair of goals and Brittney Dioneda and Allison Byrne both had a goal and an assist. In goal, Megan Kolopsky made five saves, earning her second win of the season.
 
Christine Wright led the Golden Knights with four goals. Paige Fayette produced four points with three goals and a helper and Emma Oliver potted a pair of goals. In goal, Kara DiNatale turned away a season-high 17 shots in the loss.
 
Clarkson jumped out to a 2-0 lead 98 seconds into the contest. Fayette opened the scoring 26 seconds into the game and Wright tallied just over a minute later. The teams traded goals over the next 3:23, as Phillips notched her first two goals and Wright and Fayette both found the back of the net to give the Golden Knights a 4-2 lead.
 
The Thoroughbreds took control midway through the first half with five unanswered goals. Phillips completed her hat trick on a quick Skidmore counter attack, Caroline Bowne knotted the score at 4-4, taking a feed from Dioneda and scoring from close range and Emma Harris gave the Thoroughbreds their first lead with 12:02 left in the first with her ninth goal of the season. Spencer Morgan gave Skidmore a 6-4 lead, extending her scoring streak to seven games and Byrne tallied on a free position to make it 7-4.
 
The Golden Knights pulled within one at the half, as Wright converted from a free position, and after Dioneda restored the three-goal Skidmore lead, Oliver scored the final goal of the half to make it 8-6 at the break.
 
Clarkson carried the momentum into the second half, scoring two quick goals to tie the score at 8-8. Wright potted her fourth of the game 41 seconds into the half and Fayette notched her 42nd of the season 1:41 later. Emma Harris put the Thoroughbreds back in front with an unassisted effort with 14:23 remaining and after Oliver brought the Golden Knights level, Phillips provided the game's final goal with 2:10 remaining in regulation.
 
The Thoroughbreds outshot the Golden Knights 32-15, and they owned a 12-8 edge in draw controls and a 22-18 edge in ground balls.
 
Skidmore hosts St. Lawrence University at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26.
