Hudson Falls, N.Y.—The Skidmore College golf team beat Rensselaer in a playoff to win the Liberty League Qualifier at the Kingswood Country Club.  The Thoroughbreds will host RPI, Rochester, and St. Lawrence in a match-play event in April to decide the league's NCAA qualifier.

The Thoroughbreds came from five strokes down to tie the Engineers and then had a six stroke win in the playoff to secure the win.

Skidmore (295-293—588) and RPI (290-298—588) played in the 2012 Liberty League final. Rochester was third (301-302—603) and St. Lawrence (304-307—611) fourth.  Not qualifying for the spring final were NYU (306-310-616), Clarkson (312-308—620), and Hobart (330-311—641).

Skidmore's Anthony DiLisio came from two strokes back to earn medalist honors with 72-71—143, two better than Rochester's Nick Palladino (75-70—145).

"I am so proud of the guys today. We fought with everything we had and came back on a very good RPI team, said Skidmore coach Fred Frusion.  "Being in a team playoff is rare and thrilling win or lose. It was exactly what we needed because I didn't feel we were where we needed to be as a team. But in the playoff format it's the ultimate team experience. Fist pumping, cheering, it's a whole other level of excitement. Very much like the Ryder Cup.

"The way the guys responded in the playoff was impressive. All the guys hit real quality shots and we won the playoff by 6. Impressive! This was important. Being able to host the Liberty League Match play championship in the spring is huge."

Also making Liberty League first team were Graham Niles of St. Lawrence (73-73—146), Craig Bokenfohr (74-73—147) and Brandon Mader (72-75-147) of Rensselaer, and Skidmore's John McCarthy (77-70—147).

Liberty League second team honorees were Dominick Schumacher of Rochester (75-73—148), John Harris of St. Lawrence (77-72—149), Zach Grossman (76-74—150) and Tim Manwaring (77-73—150) of Skidmore, Grant Rosener of Rensselaer (70-80—150), G.W. VanderZwaag of Rochester, 72-78—180, and Jack Whelan of St. Lawrence (77-73—150).
